Sosa is referred to by President George W. Bush as "the worst trade I ever made," referring to when Bush's Texas Rangers team sent Sosa to the White Sox in a deal to get Harold Baines. Sosa was just 20 then, but already in the big leagues. The White Sox made a similar mistake a couple of years later, trading Sosa after a season where he hit .203 to the Cubs to get George Bell. A couple years later, Sosa emerged as a solid power hitter, and a couple years after that as a premier slugger. He really emerged in 1998, accompanying Mark McGwire on a season-long home run chase. Sosa would hit 66, 63, 50 and 64 home runs in consecutive years, but only led the league the year he hit 50. Go figure. He also led in 2002 with 49. He led the league in RBI twice, and won the 1998 NL MVP.
Sosa earned 156.65 ratings points.
