Jones has been one of the all-time great defensive outfielders, though his speed is now almost gone. He also hits for good power, and draws walks at a steady clip. These things together have made him a very valuable player during Atlanta's long string of success. Jones has also hit well in the postseason, including two home runs in the 1996 World Series as a rookie for the native of Curacao.
His superb 2005 season nearly earned him an MVP award, even though he batted just .263. Jones has batted .300 just once, but regularly hits 30 homers or more per season. His offense has tanked recently though, and as Atlanta let him go to Los Angeles as a free agent, it has not improved. His legacy has suffered from this sudden drop in productivity.
Jones has earned 171.94 ratings points through 2010.
Jones' stats: .256 average, 408 HR, 1224 RBI, 10 Gold Gloves, 10 World Series homers. posted by Shawn Weaver at 11:24 AM
